02018 – Private Messages Between Members

The Direct Private Message feature allows you to interact directly with other users. It’s a great tool to connect and to know other members better.

IMPORTANT:
For members to view their private messages, the Messages setting must be enabled in Online Course Portal settings. Click here for full instructions.
How to Access Private Messages
  • Click the profile icon in the upper right corner of the Portal and then click Messages.
    A pop-up screen will appear with all your private conversations with other users.
    Click on the other person’s name from the list to view your conversations.
  • Click the Back button or left arrow to go back to the previous page. You can always check other messages by following the same steps.

 

Creating a New Private Message
  • Go to your Social Wall Page. To know more about the Social Wall Page, simply go to How to setup a Social Wall
  • Hover your mouse over the name/avatar until the pop-up appears and then click on Message.
    NB: If the Members can message others option is disabled in the Page Options, the Send Message option will not appear.  For more information, you may check Managing your Social Wall Posts
  • After clicking that, you will be directed to a window to start the conversation with that person.
  • You can now start typing your message and use the formatting options available.
  • Once done, click on the Send button and the message will appear.
  • The other person will then be able to view your message in their Messages.

 

Replying to Private Messages
  • Click the profile icon in the upper right corner on your profile and then click Messages.
  • A pop-up screen will appear with all your private conversations and new messages with other users.
  • Private conversation when still unread will show a red dot.
  • Click on the other person’s name from the list to view the message.
  • Once you’ve clicked on the person’s name, you can now view and reply to the message.
  • Once done, click on the Send button and the message will appear.
Filter Private Messages

To filter the private message, you may use the Filter option and then simply type in the name of the member.

Text Box Features
  • You can add images, videos and emoji when sending a private message.
    + To add an image, you can use an Image URL, or upload an image directly from your computer (max. 200kb per image).

    + To add a video, simply add the video URL in the field provided. You can embed videos hosted on the following platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, Facebook, MP4, Loom.

    + When someone inserts a video URL directly to the comment or reply box, the video player will be automatically added.
    NB: You may add videos from the following platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, Facebook, MP4, Loom. 
    + To add an emoji, simply click on the emoji icon.
    The emoji picker pop up window will appear.
Edit and Delete messages

You have the option to edit or delete the message.
When you hover your mouse beside the bubble message, there will be an ellipsis icon. Simply click on it and the options to Edit or Delete the message will appear.

+ Edit – When you click on Edit, the Edit Comment pop up window will appear.
+ Delete
– When you click on Remove, there will be a notification confirming the action and you will have the options between OK or Cancel.
+ Like
– You may click the heart icon beside the bubbles to like a message.
NB: 
If you’re logged in as an admin, you may edit and delete your own message and for someone else’s message.

Pin a Private Message

You may pin a private message to make it stay on top of the Messages.
Simply click on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner and click on Pin. Once pinned, it will stay on top of the Messages and there will be a pin icon on the right side of the user’s name.
